In the bleak mid-winter...

I woke up to a white sheen across my garden, frost. 27 degrees !! Yikes, the dog wanted mittens, get out there you wimp. Cold, cold, cold, everything is cold. I had to break the ice on the water font for the chickens and put hay down on the ground for them to walk on. They wouldn't mind walking on the cold ground, but when their feet freeze and fall off; I would feel bad watching them thump around on nubbins.

"Come on Yogi, keep up!" I drag him along on the lawn-cicle.  The grass crunches beneath our feet. The sky is clear and the sun starts to crest over Table Mountain. I don't really mind the cold when I am wearing my "big coat" and walking the dog. It is quiet and we are alone. Sometimes I like that. It is nice to have some time to put your thoughts together before the day begins. To watch the sun break free and hear the ice cracking as it warms, to see the chickens scratching on the frozen ground and see the new eggs in the nests is peaceful and life affirming.

I look up at the geese flying overhead and think about floating in the air and... what the ?? Oh Yogi, why did you do that on the path? Yuck, you knew I was walking there...stop snickering..come back here you coward. Time to get a shovel..

Peace and love to you all...and watch out where you step...
