I woke up to a white sheen across my garden, frost. 27 degrees !! Yikes, the dog wanted mittens, get out there you wimp. Cold, cold, cold, everything is cold. I had to break the ice on the water font for the chickens and put hay down on the ground for them to walk on. They wouldn't mind walking on the cold ground, but when their feet freeze and fall off; I would feel bad watching them thump around on nubbins.
"Come on Yogi, keep up!" I drag him along on the lawn-cicle. The grass crunches beneath our feet. The sky is clear and the sun starts to crest over Table Mountain. I don't really mind the cold when I am wearing my "big coat" and walking the dog. It is quiet and we are alone. Sometimes I like that. It is nice to have some time to put your thoughts together before the day begins. To watch the sun break free and hear the ice cracking as it warms, to see the chickens scratching on the frozen ground and see the new eggs in the nests is peaceful and life affirming.
I look up at the geese flying overhead and think about floating in the air and... what the ?? Oh Yogi, why did you do that on the path? Yuck, you knew I was walking there...stop snickering..come back here you coward. Time to get a shovel..
Peace and love to you all...and watch out where you step...

I gave in....
Yup, I caved, sold out, threw in the towel, surrendered. I called up the satelite company and signed us up again. My kids are happy and my husband is ecstatic. He is not a techno-geek and the whole streaming thing really put him off.
"Honey," he would shout up the stairs, "which remote do I use? The one with the green light, the one that says Samsung or the one with tape holding the battery in? " I would answer him and hear:
"It isn't working...nope, still not working...THIS IS CRAP!!"
Then I would go downstairs and find him sitting in the dark; staring at the TV and mumbling to himself. So, I had to do something...I made the call. Now we have state-of-the-art technology at the push of a button and just one remote. (not to mention a two year commitment)
So, to keep my husband happy, let my kids see some of the popular programming and get my cooking shows; I made the call. Now if I could just find out what happened to the "Naked Chef" and the "Two Fat Ladies" I'll be happy too.
Peace and love to you all....

Resolutions...
I hereby resolve to finish my projects...sometime this year. That's not a cop-out. Those of you who know me, know I am ten years into some of my projects, and months into others. I resolve to finish my studio refurbish, to finish the basement, to finish the guest room, to...oh heck, I'll start with walking the dog and see where that leads.
Its not that I procrastinate...it's that I take a long time to start things and finish things. But this year will be different, this year I will be better. No really, why are you laughing? No seriously, this year I have meds. This year I know why I struggled to maintain the energy I need to tackle these complex tasks. This year my husband is retired and able to help me do the difficult things that stop my progress. This year I...(where did I put my pills ? get out of the way, honey, I can't see where my pills are!)
This year will probably be like every year. Don't beat yourself up about it, we are meant to be faithful learners. Do your best and leave God the rest. He knows. Don't leave the world filled with your regrets. Don't judge other people's intentions. I follow my faith's teachings, I love everyone, some people from a distance. I pray for everyone and hope some of them pray for me. Good luck,
Peace and love to you all...

HAPPY NEW YEAR, or back to work, back to work...
I hope you are all well and happy. And by all, I mean both of my loyal readers. The holidays are done and it is only 352 days until Christmas. Isn't it interesting that this holiday continues on the calendar? We have the idle idiots arguing to take God out of the pledge of allegiance and off of the currency. They scream for the removal of the Ten Commandments from the courthouse steps and that no religious reference may be made in a school, but the Christmas season goes on. Could this artificially enhanced event be somehow protected? Could it have something to do with the economic solvency of our nation? Could Jesus be shaking His head at the money changers who have moved from the Temple and now occupy His birthday party?
Enough, I am a happy farmer. My girls are working their little butts off for me. And yes, the really big one was a double yolk. My daughter goes on an egg hunt everyday since the girls are a little unclear on the concept of nesting.
WTF?!! my jpeg photo upload isn't working...
I am a little surprised at how many eggs we are collecting (3-4 a day) as it is the bleak of winter and I am not adding artificial light to their day. I am preparing my list for new chicks this spring, including meat birds, and we are getting ready to refurbish the green house for conversion to a hen house.
My holiday break was very productive. The kids rooms have been repainted, the carpets are clean, my Christmas decorations are stored away and I am reconditioning the cottage. Oh, the dog has ear mites again... so I am off to hunt him down and soak his ears. Crap, he read my screen...hey, who taught the dog how to read?
